Atlanta's Building Code for Anchor Testing

The City of Atlanta Office of Buildings follows the 2024 International Building Code with Georgia Amendments, effective January 1, 2026. Georgia jumped directly from the 2018 IBC to the 2024 IBC — skipping the 2021 edition. This means Atlanta projects permitted after January 1, 2026 must comply with six years of code updates all at once. Georgia also adopted the SEAOG Special Inspections Guidelines as an authorized reference standard for implementing Chapter 17 special inspections.

For detailed information on what changed, see our Georgia 2024 IBC Anchor Testing Changes page.

Atlanta-Specific Note

The City of Atlanta Office of Buildings has specific permit review processes for special inspections. Project teams should confirm the Statement of Special Inspections (SSI) is included in the permit application and that inspector qualifications meet Georgia's new Table 1704.2 requirements. Coordinate with the plan reviewer early — don't wait until the inspector shows up on site.

Yes. IBC Section 1705.3 requires special inspection for all post-installed anchors in concrete. Georgia's new Table 1704.2 establishes minimum inspector qualifications. The building owner is responsible for hiring the special inspector — not the contractor. We provide qualified inspectors who meet Georgia's updated requirements.
